My Two Cents – My *Not so* Perfect Life {Review}

My Not So Perfect Life

Everywhere Katie Brenner looks, someone else is living the life she longs for, particularly her boss, Demeter Farlowe. Demeter is brilliant and creative, lives with her perfect family in a posh townhouse, and wears the coolest clothes. Katie’s life, meanwhile, is a daily struggle—from her dismal rental to her oddball flatmates to the tense office politics she’s trying to negotiate. No wonder Katie takes refuge in not-quite-true Instagram posts, especially as she’s desperate to make her dad proud.
Then, just as she’s finding her feet—not to mention a possible new romance—the worst happens. Demeter fires Katie. Shattered but determined to stay positive, Katie retreats to her family’s farm in Somerset to help them set up a vacation business. London has never seemed so far away—until Demeter unexpectedly turns up as a guest.

Hello Friends!

I read My Not So Perfect Life by Sophie Kinsella recently. I borrowed it from the library and I am glad that I did.

While the book was cute,  it was just like every other Sophie Kinsella adult contemporary. Girl meets boy, something happens, girl goes through something t hat changes her outlook on  life, girl gets boy. There wasn’t anything new to it, that being said I did still enjoy it for what it was and it was a very quick read. I used it as a palate cleanse between YA themed fantasy novels. I’d say it did the trick.

I really don’t have a lot to say about this book. If you’ve read one Kinsella book, you’ve pretty much read them all. If you enjoy Sophie’s work, then definitely give it a read. If you just think they are ok, you’re probably good to pass this one up unless you can borrow it like I did or get it free some other way.

My Two Cents – P.S. I Still Love You {Review}

P.S.-I-still-love-you-Jenny-Han-cover

Lara Jean didn’t expect to really fall for Peter.
She and Peter were just pretending. Except suddenly they weren’t. Now Lara Jean is more confused than ever.
When another boy from her past returns to her life, Lara Jean’s feelings for him return too. Can a girl be in love with two boys at once?

Hello Friends!

Lara Jean is back! P.S. I Still Love You is a charming sequel which I enjoyed just as much as To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before. Lara Jean and Peter are a cute couple but then Peter starts hanging around with Genevieve and when LJ starts asking questions, he avoids them. Throw in an old love and you have a very teenage romance full of drama and confusion.

I can’t say that I ever had this problem in high school.  I only dated one boy that was really important and I certainly didn’t have any other ones competing for my attention. It was a cute read though and I could certainly identify with Lara Jean’s predicament through Jenny Han’s wonderful writing.

We see more of Kitty in this book and we see a lot of the way our relationships effect our families. Especially when the relationships go… sideways. Kitty is still quite a character and I absolutely adore her, I think she reminds me a lot of me haha!

The book ends in an undesirable way to me. I like to root for the underdog and sadly, the underdog doesn’t always win.  Luckily… Always & Forever, Lara Jean comes out in May!  Am I evil to hope that Lara Jean ends up with someone who isn’t Peter?

If you’ve read both Lara Jean books, I’m pretty sure we can figure out what is going to happen in the third book. I’m looking forward to seeing if Jenny Han is going to do what people expect or if she’s going to go a different way.

Now we wait….

My To Cents – To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before {Review}

to-all-the-boys-ive-loved-before

What if all the crushes you ever had found out how you felt about them…all at once?

Lara Jean Song keeps her love letters in a hatbox her mother gave her. They aren’t love letters that anyone else wrote for her; these are ones she’s written. One for every boy she’s ever loved—five in all. When she writes, she pours out her heart and soul and says all the things she would never say in real life, because her letters are for her eyes only. Until the day her secret letters are mailed, and suddenly, Lara Jean’s love life goes from imaginary to out of control.

Hello Friends!

This book was so cute and I really enjoyed it! Lara Jean’s plight reminds me of when I was in high school and crushing on boys. 🙂

“Do you know what it’s like to like someone so much you can’t stand it and know that they’ll never feel the same way?”

TATBILB is a very quick and easy read but it’s got a lot of depth to it. If you are passed the high school age it will bring you back and make you nostalgic for the kind of outlook on love that only teenagers can have and if you are currently in high school you will absolutely relate to Lara Jean’s thoughts and actions. I recall doing/thinking some of the same things when I was that age. There were many times throughout the book that I totally had all the feels and tears came to my eyes in remembrance and empathy to Lara Jean.

I especially remember this boy I had a crush on from sixth grade all the way to tenth. His name was Ryan and he was so cool in my eyes. Super cute and nice too. We actually ended up hanging out at our high school gradation formal quite a bit (my first love, from a different school, broke up with me after two years. Right before formal. #rude I guess his mom gave him the same advice Margot got.). I still have the picture of he and I in our formal wear that was taken at a friends house. I often wonder what he’s doing now.  You’d think in the age of social media he’d be easy to track down, but he doesn’t seem to use it.

” Sisters are supposed to fight and make up, because they are sisters and sisters always find their way back to each other”

This book isn’t only about teenage romance. It’s about the relationship between sisters. Margot, Lara  Jean and Kitty lost their mother at a young age and it was up to them to take care of each other and their father. The three girls have a lovely relationship filled with goofy interactions, jealousy, taunting and everything else that is involved in a sibling relationship. I have to admit I love Kitty, she’s so tenacious and strong willed and I’d love to see more about her 🙂

“Like snow globes, you shake them up, and for a moment everything is upside down and glitter everywhere, and it’s just like magic – but then it all settles and goes back to where it’s supposed to be. Things have a way of settling back.”

I’m very much looking forward to the next two books P.S. I Still Love You (available now) and Always and Forever, Lara Jean (available in May). Have you read Lara Jean’s story? What are some memories it brought up for you?

xx J

P.S. I just realized that I bought TATBILB in paperback. Normally, this wouldn’t be an issue but with Always and Forever, Lara Jean coming out in May I now have to wait to purchase it in paperback (because the trilogy must match) and continue the story! 😦
